Visuddha Chakra

VishuddhaVisuddha (cleanse, purity) is the fifth chakra, a light blue ball of light located at the throat. This is the place where the result of our spiritual practice starts manifesting for real. Here, after stirring the prana, realigning the shushumna nadi and harmonizing the chakras that are below throat, we start waking the process towards constant stream of presence and awareness. However, this is the place where it gets energetically complicated, as with the prana we not only bring up the amrita (the nectar of immortality), but also the hala-hala (poison of delusion).

So according one of the stories in Hindu tradition, Shiva drank the hala-hala to save all beings and creation, kept it in his throat and turned blue because of that poison remaining there. The meaning behind this story is that by integrating the poison within ourselves (without spitting it out), we can purify (visuddha), and transform (by turning into another color) ourselves. This chakra is related to expressing ourselves, communication and speaking the truth.

Healthy visuddha chakra will signify effortless expression of oneself, without fear of being rejected and misunderstood. Artists, who not just mastered their technique, but speak the very core of their being through their masterpieces, are the ones with active throat center. In the yoga world, people like Krishna Das work with their visuddha, as singing and repeating the names of Gods and mantras harmonize this center. One friend of mine shared on Facebook how much he stroke her by his humbleness and non-arrogance. And this is very logical as for his visuddha is harmonized, which brings the true realization of yoga – the fact that all is one, and when all is one there is no-one better or worse.

When this center is underactive, we tend to be withdrawn in our speech, be shy and not truthful. In the relations our needs will not be heard and we will most probably end up stuck with someone, whose visuddha is over-active. The latter are instead those, who can speak very fluently and consistently only to dominate others and keep them at a safe distance. These people will be very much in their head and not in their heart. Often nowadays visuddha chakra’s imbalance results in thyroid gland disease, and this usually results in people affected being extremely irritable, easy to be set on fire and yell at others.

For me personally, last year indicated visuddha chakra awakening as, for instance, writing is also one of the actions of visuddha. Through these articles I share with you my experiential truth. It is a beautiful process to find your voice and be able to speak and be heard. However it is essential to remember, that the heart should not be overlooked, as otherwise we will just turn into a magnificent speaker, who can address big masses, but will not be really truthful. I find that often the politicians are such, their throat and stomach chakras over-active (otherwise how can they reach so high in position and wealth; and address skillfully many people with their lies), while heart chakra totally over-looked (as if they listened to it, there would not be war, dealing weapons etc.)

I hope you enjoyed reading me, next week from India I will write on Ajna chakra. Be happy, healthy and strong!
