Ashtanga workshops in Rotterdam
- Details
- Created on Sunday, 01 April 2012 18:37
After moving to UK and getting a yoga boost in Goa, I will be back in The Netherlands in May. For the first time I will visit Rotterdam’s “Yoga Maya” studio to share my knowledge and passion for Ashtanga yoga. Please join these 2 days with me, I would love to see you all on the mats again =)
Friday, 18 May 2012 from 20.00 till 22.00 -“Neutral pelvis in asana” workshop
The ability to maintain the neutral position of the pelvis allows us to perform all the yoga asanas with ease and grace, be it a forward- or a back-bend, twist, arm-balancing pose or an inversion. To maintain this stability and neutrality of pelvis requires strength and flexibility of hip flexor muscles and hamstrings.
In this workshop each student will discover the neutral position of his or her pelvis, as “normal” position we are used to, is not always the neutral. We will learn various exercises to stretch the hip flexors and engage the hamstrings, and learn how to stabilize the pelvis in poses where strength of hip flexors is required. By going through some poses of Primary and Intermediate series of Ashtanga yoga we will learn how to implement the neutral pelvis in various asanas.
Price: Euro 40,-
Saturday, 19 May 2012 from 10.00 till 12.30 - "Lift light, jump high" workshop
Dynamic nature, vinyasa and transitions between the poses make Ashtanga practice graceful, strong and beautiful. This workshop will be dedicated to "jump back" and "jump through" techniques, that seem to be very challenging and almost impossible for many of us, especially for ladies.
We will analyze the stages of these transitions and will learn exercises to build up strength needed to perform them. While working in pairs we will help each other jump up higher and use our core strength and courage to float in the air.
Using our palms, feet, thighs and pelvis can dramatically help us to understand the power of gravity, which can pull us down but also lift us up!
Price: Euro 40,-
Saturday, 19 May 2012 from 14.00 till 16.30 - "Arm balances" workshop
This workshop will take you through the theory and practice of various arm balances from bakasana, tithibasana, pincha mayurasana, hand stand etc. To understand the arm balance we need to understand the notion of balance itself. Arm balances are literally about balancing and not about building strength in arms. The strength actually comes from bandhas and the bravery to go passed the comfort limit that we set for ourselves. We will also focus on preparatory abdominal strength exercises.
The second part will be about arm balances and how we should work our hands and forearms in combination with the pelvis. We will experience how the position of the shoulders and pelvis influence stability and how shifting the center of the gravity can influence these poses. Finally we will move into more of a playground set-up, where we will also learn how to fall safely out of a hand stand and fore-arm balance (pincha mayurasana).
Price: Euro 40,-
All three sessions paid in advanced Euro 100.
